Dell is giving XPS 13, arguably its most popular laptop, a refresh.
The new XPS 13 comes with an eighth-generation quad-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 Kaby Lake processors. The former is clocked at 1.4 GHz with turbo to 3.4 GHz, while the latter at 1.8 GHz with turbo to 4 GHz. The processors are said to bring up to 40 percent better performance than their Kaby Lake counterparts.
Other than that, you get up to 16 GB RAM, PCIe-based storage of 128, 256 or 512 GB capacity or a 1 TB hard drive.
There are still older 7th-generation options available for people who want something within a tighter budget. You also have the option of getting a dedicated GTX 1070 graphics card, though the base models will have to make do with Intel HD Graphics 620.
Design-wise, Dell calls it the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world, thanks to its small bezels. That’s not all, as Dell has still fitted a QHD+ (3200 x 1800) display on the front, still supporting battery life of up to 13 hours when on Netflix.
Connectivity-wise, you get a 40 GBps Thunderbolt 3 port with 2, 10 GBps USB 3.1 ports. There’s also Killer Wi-Fi ac, SD card reader, and a fingerprint scanner.
With all this, the price starts at $800. Dell is also outing a few accessories including keyboard, mice, dock and a 12,000 mAh battery case.
Dell has also announced a series of new laptops, the most-interesting among which is its first 17-inch 2-in-1, the Inspiron 7000. This laptop comes with an FHD IPS touchscreen display, Intel’s 7th generation processors, and USB-C for connectivity.
The convertible starts at $950, though, the market for 17-inch convertibles is pretty empty as of now. It is followed by other Inspiron 3000 and 5000 models, both of which come in 13 and 15-inch versions.
They start at $850 and $750, respectively.
